But what does that mean?

Sports is recognized as being fundamental in the development of children (and adults!). Governments around the world (including the U.S.A.), the United Nations, and countless foundations recognize this explicitly. Many sports fans like to claim that their respective sport is the most influential, and people in the hockey community are particularly passionate about it, as it is a sport that thrives on passion.

In its purest form, hockey is able to impart valuable life lessons, such as accountability, honesty, teamwork, selflessness, discipline, as well as mental & physical toughness. The highest level hockey players are among the finest conditioned athletes in the world, putting their bodies through a variety of obstacles. All while learning a new mode of transportation!

The Hockey Foundation’s primary mission (aka Mission Statement) is to operate with these goals in mind:

Respect the history, traditions and rules of ice hockey

Uphold the highest level of moral conduct surrounding the game

Provide the greatest opportunity to those with the greatest need

Support the training of ice hockey wherever there is a desire to improve

Encourage growth of ice hockey in non-traditional regions

Foster the interaction of ice hockey fans & players from around the globe

Collaborate with people/organizations that feel passionate about ice hockey

To achieve these goals, The Hockey Foundation supports grass-roots hockey around the world, focusing on regions not known to the mainstream hockey world…such as Ladakh (in Himalayan India). This is where the program officially began, from January to March, 2009. People from around North America donated to the founder of The Hockey Foundation, Adam Sherlip (aka “The Hockey VolunteerTM”) to take on this program.

Adam was able to build relationships with the hockey community in the region - as well as in India - and lay the foundations for what should be many years of dedicated hockey instruction.

Now the program is expanding. India is just one of what looks to be many countries over time that will benefit from The Hockey Foundation. But your support is vital.

Your donation (of any amount) will help attain the goals listed above, and ultimately allow us to all “share happiness & change lives, one puck at a time.”
