WANT TO PLAY HOCKEY IN THE HIMALAYAS?

WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING PRE-REGISTRATION…

The Hockey Foundation has partnered with adventure travel companies to offer you the opprtunity to play hockey on the highest altitude ice hockey rink in the world, in Ladakh.

If you and/or your friends & family would like to participate in a friendly international tournament in the Himalayas that will take place in January 2012, through our “Hockey Exchange ExcursionTM”, read on.

WHERE?

Ladakh, a predominantly Buddhist region within Jammu & Kashmir, a predominantly Muslim state within India, a predominantly Hindu country. Ladakh is at an altitude of approx 11,500 ft (3,300m) in the Himalayas, between Tibet & Pakistan.

WHEN?

Tentative dates are January 15, 2012 - January 25, 2012.

HOW LONG?

The tournament schedule is still being finalized. There will be a minimum of 3 days of tournament hockey, with a maximum of 7-9 days. Total days of hockey (including non-tournament) can be upwards of a week…or more!

HOW MANY TEAMS? WHERE ARE THEY FROM?

There will be 4-6 local Ladakh teams participating in the tournament, plus a team from the Canadian High Commission (Embassy) in New Delhi, a team from Shanghai, and possibly a team from Europe. The Hockey Foundation will be brining two (2) teams from North America to participate in this tournament.

HOW MANY PLAYERS?

Each team will have no more than 15 players and unless otherwise specified/requested, will be organized randomly.

ANYTHING ELSE?

You will have the opportunity to explore Ladakh and will have the option to book special travel excursions in Northwest India through The Hockey Foundation’s travel partners. There may also be an option for hockey in a different state (pending) in India. This is a friendly tournament. The games are meant to foster understanding and cooperation through competition. Male & female players as young as 16 and of all abilities are welcome to play in this tournament. You can bring your family on this trip.

HOW MUCH?

Final costs are still being negotiated to get participants the best rates possible for airfare, hotel, food & transportation around India. The Hockey Foundation is working with travel partners in the US & India, as well as sponsors, to reduce costs and get maximum benefit for all participants. Estimates are approx $3,000/person for 2 weeks, all inclusive, with a discount for booking in groups (such as a team or a family). THIS COST IS AN ESTIMATE, AND CAN CHANGE DRAMATICALLY. WE ARE ONLY POSTING THIS PRICE TO GIVE YOU A GENERAL IDEA.

Pre-registering does not require you to provide credit card information and you will not be mandated to book this trip…it’s just a courtesy for those that are interested.
